Procedures for when starting to use/cancelling water services
Please contact the Waterworks Bureau Customer Service Center at least 3 days in advance if you wish to start to use or cancel water services.
Payment of water bills
Your water bill is calculated based on the amount of water you use. Every two months, someone will come to read your water meter. If your household is connected to the public sewage system, you will also be billed for the use of sewage services, which is to be paid together with your water bill.
How your water bill is calculated
Your water bill is calculated using the following two factors.
1. The amount of water used
2. The size of the water meter (see photo on the right)
What your water bill looks like
You will receive a Water and Sewerage Usage Notice (Meter Reading Slip) containing the following information. (The photo on the right is a sample.)
(A) Meter size (in this case, 20 mm)
(B) Amount of water used this time
(C) Water bill amount
(D) Sewerage usage fee amount
How to pay
You can pay by direct debit from your bank account, credit card (ongoing payments) or payment notices received in the post.
*In the case of payment notices, please pay at one of the locations written on the back of the form.
Exemption from water bills
In some cases, people to whom any of the following apply may be eligible for an exemption from paying water bills (an amount equivalent to the basic water charge).
Those eligible include households with people with disabilities (those with physical disabilities (Level 1 or Level 2), those with an IQ of 35 or lower, those with mental disabilities (Level 1), and whose disabilities have been acknowledged by their ward office); households with members who have been certified as requiring care (Level 4 or 5); households that are in receipt of a special child rearing allowance; households that are in receipt of a medical subsidy for single parent families; single parent households in recipient of welfare benefits; etc.
Reduced water bills etc. in the event of a water leak
If water leaks from unexposed water supply pipes located underground, inside the walls of buildings, etc., even customers who take good care of their homes may not notice that anything is wrong, and in some cases may receive a high water bill because of this leaking water.
As such, there is a system in place which provides customers who meet certain criteria with a reduced water bill by reducing in part the volume of water indicated in the meter reading.
Water bills for two household residences, apartments, etc.
In the event multiple households use a single water meter, a basic water charge can be applied to each household.
